Gambrinus

The story

Gambrinus opened in 1936 and has retained the remarkable interior created in 1964 by architect Maurício de Vasconcelos. Dark Portuguese timber, leather seating, bespoke lamps, stained glass, a Portalegre tapestry and a monumental stone fireplace frame classic seafood and tableside service.

Why Gambrinus is iconic

Not Belle Époque but equally important: a virtually intact mid-century grand restaurant whose scale, materials and rituals preserve a vanished, formal Lisbon.
