The story
Confitería Torres traces its history to 1879, when the celebrated confectioner and butler José Domingo Torres was given a business of his own. Its historic Alameda restaurant occupies the ornate early-twentieth-century Palacio Íñiguez, with an elaborately modelled pink façade, tall timber doors and a traditional dining room serving Chilean breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
Why Confitería Torres is iconic
Its appeal lies in continuity and civic character: Chilean cooking in a landmark Santiago building, carried by a restaurant name that has survived since the nineteenth century rather than by a newly invented heritage concept.
