Canlis, an iconic pacific northwest restaurant in Seattle

The story

Peter Canlis opened this dramatic Roland Terry-designed restaurant in 1950. Its low roof, stone walls, timber structure and glass façade frame Lake Union and helped establish a distinctly Pacific Northwest language of modern dining.

Why Canlis is iconic

A rare restaurant whose architecture shaped both its regional identity and the way generations of Seattle diners mark an occasion.
